Add Cardano to Metamask Wallet

The Cardano network cannot be added to your Metamask wallet because it is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible exchange.

If you want to use the Ouroboros network on Cardano, you will need to download and install a Daedulus Wallet.

Metamask does not allow users to add the Cardano Ouroboros network to their web 3 wallet. This is because Cardano is not built on the EVM scripting language called Solidity, but is instead written in Haskell.

Metamask only supports blockchains written in solidity that support the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) like Avalanche, Fantom, or Tron (TRX).

Will Metamask ever support Cardano?

It is unlikely that Metamask will support Cardano in the network's current state. Ouroboros users may have to wait until the Cardano Foundation or an independent developer releases EVM compatibility for Ethereum wallets like Metamask to integrate the network.

There is a Cardano application called Milkomeda that is currently working on bringing EVM compatibility to Ouroboros, but it is not expected to be released until later this year.

Milkomeda is a cross-chain interoperability solution for Cardano.

How can I get a Cardano Wallet?

For investors and blockchain users looking to test out the Cardano Ouroborus blockchain, we recommend downloading a Daedalus wallet. This wallet is the most popular on the Cardano network and is completely open-source and safe to use. You can download and install it in minutes from your mobile or computer.

Download the Daedalus Wallet.
